Course Description
Engineering is the application of maths, science and technology to design and build machines, structures, materials or engines. A civil engineer might be involved in designing a bridge or a road, while a chemical engineer may focus on a new adhesive. A mechanical engineer might build and maintain an engine, where a software engineer may write a piece of code for a website, such as this one! Many elements of engineering overlap, and knowledge of multiple disciplines are needed across a number of different types of engineering and also other areas of STEMM.
Engineering is the application of scientific discoveries to the real world.
You may also be interested in visiting the Technology course, where you will find a number of lessons on female software engineers.
- Types of Engineering can include:
- Civil Engineering
- Chemical Engineering
- Computer Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Software Engineering

The following content comes from a number of the different areas of engineering as listed above. You will also hear a range of different career paths, such as from those who have been through university, to those who have completed in work or internship study to receive their qualifications.
At the end is a number of links to a range of providers who offer training and qualifications in engineering in New Zealand.
